"People have a hard time understanding my child when they talk."
"My child has trouble expressing their thoughts, answering questions, or following directions."
"My child gets frustrated because they can't communicate what they want or need."
"My child struggles to make friends, join conversations, or interact with other kids."
"My school-age child or teen has difficulty understanding language, participating in class, or communicating effectively at school."
School eligibility is based on educational impact, so some children don't qualify — or qualify for very little. Private therapy at Thrive is one-on-one and individualized, and can supplement what your child gets at school. Contact us to talk it through.
Tell us what you're noticing and we'll help you find the right starting point.
We currently accept select Medicaid plans (Humana and Sunshine Health) and Aetna, plus private-pay options. We're also credentialing with additional insurers — Florida Blue, Cigna, Simply, and Oscar — coming soon. Because plans and coverage change over time, the best way to know what your specific plan covers is to let us check for you. Contact us and we'll verify your current benefits, including any copay or authorization requirements. You can read more on our Why Thrive section.
Yes — private pay is available if you don't have coverage we accept, or if you'd prefer not to use insurance. Cost depends on the service (for example, an evaluation versus an ongoing therapy session) and whether you're using insurance or paying privately. Rather than publish figures that may not apply to your situation, we'll share clear, current rates with you directly. Contact us for current rates — and if you're using insurance, we'll verify your benefits and explain any copay before you commit.
No. This is one of the most common worries parents bring us, and the research is clear: growing up with two languages does not cause speech or language disorders or delays. Bilingual children can have a speech or language delay — just as monolingual children can — but the second language isn't the cause, and dropping a language isn't the fix. Supporting both languages is good for your child's communication and connection to family. A proper evaluation considers all the languages your child hears and uses, which is exactly the bilingual expertise Danna brings.
Yes. Danna Mejia, M.S., CCC-SLP, is a bilingual speech-language pathologist, and Thrive provides evaluations and therapy fully in English, Spanish, or a blend of both — whatever fits your family. Assessing a bilingual child accurately means considering all the languages they use, not just English, which is why bilingual expertise matters. It's a rarely-offered option for South Florida families. Hablamos español — see our bilingual services or contact us in the language you're most comfortable in.
Thrive works with children and teens — from early intervention for babies and toddlers (including late talkers) through preschool, school-age children, and adolescents. Each plan of care is tailored to your child's developmental stage, whether that's building first words, sharpening speech clarity, or developing the higher-level and social language teens need at home, in school, and with friends. Not sure if your child is the right age or fit? Reach out — we're happy to talk it through.
Thrive supports a range of communication needs in children and teens, including early intervention, articulation and speech sound disorders, expressive and receptive language delays, childhood apraxia of speech (CAS), social communication, and adolescent and teen communication support. Care is individualized after an evaluation and delivered in English, Spanish, or both. See our full Services page for details on each area, or contact us if you're unsure which fits what you're noticing in your child.
Early intervention means supporting communication as early as possible — often for babies and toddlers who aren't yet babbling, using first words, or putting words together the way you'd expect. The early years are a time of rapid brain development, so support during this window can make a meaningful difference in how a child communicates and connects. You don't need to simply "wait and see" if something feels off. If you have concerns about a late talker, an evaluation can help you understand them. Reach out and we'll guide you on next steps.
They can complement each other. School-based services (through an IEP) are built around your child's educational needs and are often delivered in groups or limited minutes. Private therapy at Thrive is one-on-one and individualized, so it can target goals more intensively and address communication beyond the classroom — at home, with peers, and in the community. Many families use both. If you're weighing it, we're glad to talk through what private therapy would add for your child. Contact us to discuss.
Yes. Thrive provides secure online speech therapy (teletherapy) across Florida when it's a good fit for your child, so families can get support from home — no commute, and easier to fit into busy schedules. Teletherapy works well for many goals and ages, and Danna will let you know if in-person sessions in Deerfield Beach would serve your child better. Sessions are available in English and Spanish. See Services for more on telehealth.
Yes. In addition to working with families, Thrive contracts directly with schools and districts — coordinating with the school or district administration rather than through individual families — to provide direct therapy, evaluations, and IEP support, in person or virtually. Danna provides services directly in Florida and can staff licensed clinicians to meet needs in other states. If you're a school or district administrator, contact us to discuss your needs. Families looking for individual therapy can start on our Getting Started page.
Your appointment time is reserved specifically for your child, so we ask for at least 48 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the appointment, or missed sessions without notice (no-shows), incur a $30 fee charged to the card on file. Exceptions may be made at our discretion in cases of emergency. You can read the full details on our Practice Policies page.
